“Using bees as a natural control method to minimize the encroachment of wild elephants on agricultural lands, the University of Ruhuna and Southern Province Industrial Development Authority jointly conducted the research “Elephant Control Fence and Research Project” at a cultivated land in Gonnoruwa, was launched today at the Southern Provincial Governor’s Office.

Bodhika, Head of the Department of Agricultural Biology, University of Ruhuna, Mrs. Amani Mannakkara, Professor Lasantha Adhikaram, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna and Lecturer in the Department of Physics, University of Ruhuna, Mr. Sisila Abeywickrama, Director of the Doctoral and Technical Transfer Unit (TTO) of the Faculty of Medicine, Karapitiya, University of Ruhuna, Dr. Lahiru Prabodhana, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Department of Forest Conservation, Mrs. Buddhi Tharanga Karunasena, Executive Pradeshiya Sabha Member of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation, Mr. Sunil Ratnayake Mr., the Chairman and Director General of the Southern Provincial Industrial Development Authority, Mr. Mohan Perera, a student of the University of Ruhuna, Mr. Dhanushka Madusankha, a farmer residing in Gonnoruwa in the Hambantota District, officials of the Sri Lanka Innovation Commission, other heads of departments, chairmen of authorities and other government officials participated in this event.
